INTRODUCTION:
Long a darling of global investors, the Vietnamese growth story continues despite recent structural problems in the economy and tense relations with its northern neighbor China. Since political and economic reforms in the 1980s, the country has grown by leaps and bounds and was one of the world’s fastest growing economies alongside its other ASEAN neighbors.
Agribusiness production has nearly doubled over the past two decades, transforming Vietnam into one of the world's largest exporters of rice and shrimp and other aquaculture products. Currently, Vietnam is in the midst of a transformation from an agrarian-based economy towards one fueled by skilled-labor as the government has successfully attracted high-tech FDI in sectors such as chip assembly and semi-conductors.
Vietnam is categorized as a middle weight “tiger” economy and combines a hard-working, highly literate labor force and large domestic market of over 90 million people. Before our founding, Eastern Century’s principals has advised clients from many sectors in the Vietnamese market, with a strong emphasis on the infrastructure and energy fields. We continue to cultivate this market and are currently working on cross-border mandates that involve Vietnam and other ASEAN countries.
